Many brands use blends of whey concentrate, a tiny bit of whey isolate, and a big chunk of milk protein (or, even worse, skimmed milk powder). The result? Lower protein purity, more lactose, more fat, inconsistent amino acid profiles and, most of all, a slower blend that does not stimulate muscle protein synthesis as effectively as pure whey. You pay for whey protein, you should get whey protein.
Some companies inflate protein numbers by adding free-form amino acids that register as protein in lab tests but do not provide complete muscle-building benefits, since the unique whey amino acid profile has been altered. "Actually tastes like Italian gelato and does not sit heavy in your stomach. Try it with crushed ice and milk and you won't believe how good it is! The label is only four ingredients and it is real whey, with no filler blends or amino spiking. Yes, it costs more now, but all whey has gone up, and they did not cheapen the formula to hide it.
